Tahsin Yücel

Tahsin Yücel was a Turkish writer. He graduated from the Faculty of French Literature and Semiotics at Istanbul University and taught there until retirement. Yücel published works on Bernanos and Balzac and was a renowned translator of French literature into Turkish. He translated works by Gustave Flaubert, Marcel Proust, André Gide, Albert Camus, Michel Tournier, Roland Barthes, André Malraux, Raymond Queneau, and Pascal Quignard. In 2005, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Sorbonne University. Yücel received the Sait Faik Prize, Turkish Language Institute Prize, Book of the Year Prize, Special Contribution to Literature Prize, Special Contribution to Literary Translation Prize, Sedat Simavi Literary Prize, Balkanika Literary Prize, among others. He authored around ten novels and essay collections.
