Geronti Kikodze Award
The competition for the Geronti Kikodze Literary Prize is open from 23 December 2025. The deadline for applications is 15 January 2026.
The Geronti Kikodze Prize was established by the Agora publishing house
in 2019. Until 2023, it would reward each year the best translation of a novel from French. Since 2024, the Geronti Kikodze Prize has rewarded each year the
best translation into Georgian of a work in French (novel, collection of short
stories, essay, documentary prose, poetry, play). Since 2021, a second
nomination has been added to the Geronti Kikodze Prize to reward contributors
to the art of translation. In 2025, a new nomination was added to the Geronti
Kikodze Prize: Geronti Kikodze - School student’s Choice.
The Geronti Kikodze Prize competition is organized in partnership with
the French Embassy in Georgia, the French Cultural Center in Georgia and the representative of renaissance Française in Georgia.
The Geronti Kikodze Prize is awarded in three nominations:
- For the best translation of a translation from French (annually)
- Geronti Kikodze – School student's Choice (annually)
- For contributions to the art of translation (periodically)
The jury for the prize for the best translation of a work from French
is composed by specialists of the French language and literature, literary
managers, and is confidential.
To select the winner, the jury will be guided by the following
criteria:
- Quality of the translation: to what extent the translator masters
Georgian and French, to what extent he conveys the meaning, maintains the
register of the language, the author's style, etc.
- To what extent will this translation contribute to the development of
the Georgian literary language.
Conditions for participation in the competition:
- The original work must be written in French, the author must be
French or a representative of a French-speaking country;
- The work must be translated from French;
- A Georgian publishing house must hold the translation rights if the
author is alive or if 70 years have not passed since his death;
- The Georgian translation of the work must have been published in
print during the year preceding the awarding of the prize.;
- In the event of an equal evaluation, priority will be given to the translator who has not received the Geronti Kikodze Prize within the past three years.
- The Georgian translation of the work must be submitted to the
competition by the publisher or translator. The application must be submitted
via the electronic form on the Agora publishing house website
(http://agorabooks.ge/ka/award), and tree copies of the book must be submitted
to Mrs. Nana Laliashvili, at the Media Library of the French Institute of
Georgia at the address: 7, Lado Gudiashvili st. Please arrange in advance the

- The number of applications is not limited.
- The winner of the Geronti Kikodze Prize will be announced at the end
of March.
- The prize is 1000 GEL. It will be awarded to the translator.
Geronti Kikodze – School student’s Choice
The competition is held with the participation of students of public and private Schools of Georgia, who read the works of the last selection. The winner will be
announced at the beginning of April, at the Tbilisi Book Fair. The prize is 1000 GEL and
will be awarded to the translator.
Geronti Kikodze Prize for Contribution to the Art of Translation
The prize is awarded periodically and amounts to 1000 GEL. The winner
is chosen by the Agora publishing house.
