George Ekizashvili

Giorgi Ekizashvili is a poet, translator, and literary scholar. He was born in Batumi. His childhood spent near the sea instilled in him a love for boundless space. The sea taught him that the world does not begin and end with Batumi - that beyond the sea lie other countries, other cities, other trees, other birds... and other people. This fascination with discovery, the capacity for wonder, and the joy of the new have followed him throughout his life. Giorgi Ekizashvili has published three collections of poetry and translated over thirty works of French literature. Throughout his career, he has received numerous literary awards and honors, including the Order of Honor, the Ivane Machabeli State Prize, the SABA Prize for Best Translation, the Tumanishvili Prize for Best Translation, among others. For his contribution to the promotion of French culture, the French government awarded him the title of Commander of the Order of Academic Palms. Today, Giorgi Ekizashvili lives in Tbilisi, teaches French literature at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, continues to write poetry and to translate works of French literature.
